Format Is Tough, Says Paul

“Discipline is very important and I’ll have to address that with the boys. We have to prepare mentally because the bigger teams will come down hard on us.”

It’s a tough format but we needed the win, says Police Blue captain, Keponi Paul.

He made the comments after they struggled to beat Kavala Babaas 17-5 in their pool opener of the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament at the ANZ Stadium, Suva, yesterday.

They were without Waisea Nacuqu and Kalione Nasoko who were playing for the Fijian Shadow 7s team.

Police Blue had the services of Terio Tamani, Rusiate Nasove and Rusiate Matai.

Speaking to SUNsports Paul said they needed to work hard.

“All teams in this competition will be coming after us,” he said.

“Kavala gave us a good game. We had a few hiccups in the game, it was scrappy but we managed to pull it off.

“It was always tough to win the first game in a tournament because it sets the bar for the following ones.

“This format keeps us on track and it makes us work harder for the win.”

Paul said they would have to work on their discipline.

“We have to cool down and watch our discipline moving forward.

“Against Kavala we lost our cool but luck was on our side.

“Discipline is very important and I’ll have to address that with the boys. We have to prepare mentally because the bigger teams will come down hard on us.”

Tabadamu stay consistent

Defending Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament champions, Tabadamu plan to stay consistent with their performance as they head towards the knockout stages.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday team manager Ulaiasi Bolalailai said they are taking it one game at a time.

“Our first game was a tough one but it set the platform heading into tomorrow,” he said.
