Police are searching for a group of men who allegedly broke into, stole cash and assorted items from multiple shops at the Kartike Complex, Nadi Back Road yesterday.

The men even feasted on tuna in one of the shops.

They had hidden their faces from the CCTV cameras when entering the five shops by force.

Super Batteries PTE Limited office administrator Akshay Kumar said they found out from the CCTV footage that the alleged incidents happened during the curfew hours.

He said the alleged incidents happened twice in one week. Around $1000 was stolen from the cash drawers and damage was done to some assets.

“I can’t believe that someone could be stealing during curfew hours,” he said.

“We have reported the matter to the Police.”

He added that one of the back cameras was damaged during the incident.

Sarus Highway Grog Shop director Parveen Lata said the robbers entered their shop by ripping off the burglar bars.

“When we came in the morning to open the shop, we found that our groceries, cash, and 12kg grog were gone. They also ate tuna inside,” Mr Singh said.

She claimed that this had been their fourth break in since opening business last year. Vinz Small Engine Spares director Vinesh Naicker, 49, said this was his first experience since opening business in 2012.

“Those who broke into the shop managed to remove the bars on the windows and tried to open the door. Once they were inside, they managed to break the wall to enter the office next door (Freight Company),” he said.

Meanwhile, Police spokesperson Savaira Tabua confirmed the report. No arrests were made when this edition went to press.
