The Kabara cricket players are thankful to be taking part in the 2021 Easter Cup Championship currently being played at Albert Park, Suva.

And team manager Laitia Gauna is grateful to Cricket Fiji for footing the bills in regards to transportation and other expenses.

“We arrived from Kabara on Sunday and we are indeed grateful to Cricket Fiji for making it happen especially for island teams from Lau,”Gauna said.

“The four villages Lomati, Tokalau, Udu and Naikeleyaga are involved in regular competitions on the island but we are happy to play on the big stage and struts our stuff against the best in Viti Levu.

“It happens once a year and we always look forward to travelling to Suva.”

After beating Cicia by 3 wickets on Wednesday, the side lost to Nadi Jets by 2 wickets yesterday. The team batted first and amassed 98 runs in the 20-over match.

“We want to return with a prize to Ka­bara and we are targeting to reach the final,”Gauna said.

The team takes on Ono-i-Lau today.

A total of 14 teams are taking part in the annual event which ends on April 10.

The 14 teams included Lau island teams Moce, Oneata, Kabara, Komo and Cicia.

Results

AP1 Moce beat Masters by 46 runs, CF Invitation beat Namuka by 3 wickets.

AP2: Ono-i-lau beat Cicia by 16 runs, Nadi Jets beat Kabara by 2 wickets.

What’s on today

(API) 8am Oneata-Nadi Jets; 11 Ka­bara-Ono-i-lau; 2pm Cicia-Suva Cru­saders, Bye-Nadi Jets.

AP2: 8am Komo-CF Invitational; 11 Namuka-Moce; 2pm Masters-Suva Warriors, Bye-Western Wingmen.
