Government’s ‘Stronger Together Job Support Scheme’ assistance has benefited six individuals in Lautoka to secure employment after losing their jobs last year in March.

The six, Devesh Nair, Nazrah Ali, Shaniya Chand, Seraseini Racaca, Sajnesh Goundar and Rebekah Raj are currently employed at the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) after losing their jobs due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Contract

The group who began work last month are contracted to work for three months.

Ms Racaca and Ms Ali who were previously employed in the tourism industry were grateful to now have jobs under the Government’s support scheme.

Future preparation

Mr Goundar thanked the Government and also the SCGF for providing the opportunity for those who were out of jobs from last year.

“We all lost our jobs because of COVID-19 last year,” he said.

“This is a great experience being here at least this will prepare us for the future.”

He said it was also great to see that some families had help coming through their doors under the support scheme.

The SCGF Loans Officer Administration, Rakesh Rohan said he was appreciative to the group for being dedicated to their work.

Data verification

Chief executive officer, Raj Sharma said the SCGF were thankful to have the six people work at the organisation.

“We have engaged these people for a project of three months and they are going through the new IT system data that we have transferred, so they are doing as a data verification project headed by one of our staff,” said Mr Sharma.

Mr Sharma said the SCGF would be looking into the scope of completion for the group.
