Residents of the greater Labasa area can have their views and comments heard on the three electoral bills and report that’s currently under review in Parliament.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights will be visiting the Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata provinces next week to conduct public consultations.

Submissions are invited for the Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2020, the Electoral (Registration of Voters) (Amendment) Bill 2020, the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) (Amendment) Bill 2020 and the 2018 General Election Joint Report by the Electoral Commission and the Supervisor of Elections.

Chairman of the Committee Alvick Maharaj said the bills aim to amend the 2014 Electoral Act, 2012 Electoral (Registration of Voters) Act and the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Act of 2013.

The amendments, he said aims to reflect the changes recommended by the Electoral Commission and Fijian Elections Office which were also based on the Multinational Observer Group’s report for the last election.

“The 2018 General Election Joint Report by the Electoral Commission and the Supervisor of Elections provides a comprehensive report on the work of the Electoral Commission and the Fijian Elections Office, headed by the Supervisor of Elections during the election period in 2018,” Mr Maharaj said in a statement.

“Appended to the Joint Report are the 2018 General Election Final Report by the Supervisor of Elections and the 2018 General Election Final Report by the Multinational Observer Group.”
