Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said 90 per cent of Fiji’s suppliers of medicine stock are based abroad and the impact of COVID-19 on manufacturing countries has had a ripple effect on the stages of supply chain.
“We have organised a procurement strategy by approaching the nearby markets and aligning the treatment regiments to allow for easy access,” he said.
“We have also used our diplomatic positions all over the world in talking with them so that we can have individual discussions with the companies that are manufacturing this.”
He confirmed that the current stock availability is at 88 per cent.
