Toppers Recipient Thanks Parents For Support
Esther Rogoua Cakaunivere after her badging as deputy head girl of Jai Narayan College in Suva last year.

For Esther Rogoua Cakaunivere, her greatest gift in life is having a supportive family.

The 18-year-old of Tubou Village on the island of Lakeba in Lau could not imagine what life she would have been living today if it wasn’t for the support rendered to her by her parents and two siblings.

The former deputy head girl of Jai Narayan College in Suva is one of the recipients of the National Toppers Scholarships (NTS). She attained a mark of 379 out of 400 in her Fiji Year13 Examination last year. She resides with her parents, Susana and Paul, sister, Lily Sue and brother, Paul Junior at Vunivivi Hill in Nausori.

Esther is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting and Economics at the University of the South Pacific, Laucala Campus in Suva.

She described herself as an average student who thought she could not reach the standard her sister had set for her and Paul Junior.

This changed when she first became a student at Jai Narayan College in Suva.

“It was usually my sister and brother who got good marks before, I was the one behind but when I entered high school that’s when my parents pushed me to do better and that was when I started to attain first place,” she said.

“My sister also secured a NTS, when she achieves anything in life she will tell my brother and I that we need to accomplish more than her. My sister and my parents are behind my success.”

Mrs Cakaunivere is a dentist while Mr Cakaunivere is a pastor at the Christian Life Fellowship Church.

Esther has future plans to work at the International Monetary Fund.
