Wardens were crowned the new men’s champions of the Digicel Suva Volleyball Association’s Easter Championship.

They defeated Inner Circle 2-1 in the men’s final while Police White beat Northern Stars 2-0 in the women’s final at the National Netball Centre yesterday.

Speaking to SUNsports tournament organiser Samuela Rabuku is anticipating a good tournament next year.

“We have seen the level of competition grew to another level this year,” he said.

“The results speak for itself with a new champion crowned and a lot of upset created.

“This is one of the biggest volleyball competitions in the country and it’s good to see the support coming from fans and the players that participated in the tournament.

“Come next year there will be more teams and the competition will be tougher than this year.

“It’s good to see the new teams stamp their mark during the tournament.

“All of the new teams brought in some very new and exciting players that will certainly go far in volleyball.”

Rabuku congratulated Wardens and hopes that they stay consistent with their performance.

“The competition has really helped Volleyball Fiji in identifying new talents that we will be working very closely with in the near future.”

Both the winning teams walked away $1000 each with the runners-up getting $500 each.
