The back alley behind the area where the Land Transport Authority is located in Nausori continues to be a place where people are using to allegedly smoke drugs and drink alcohol.

Rajveer Dhan runs his business from next door and the discoveries he makes on a daily basis is frustrating.

Mr Dhan claimed that bottle bongs, cans from alcoholic beverages and even used condoms are scattered in his garage and the building next door.

“The building next door is where most things happen. What is alarming is that most of these people are young adults,” he said. “When school breaks in the afternoon, girls and boys alike (allegedly) gather to smoke marijuana and cigarettes.”

Mr Dhan said the issue has been raised with the Police. He added there needed to be a fixed Police presence in the area from 3pm to 6pm.

A shopkeeper and a resident of the area who did not wish to be named, collects beer bottles most Sundays and on the weekends from under the new Rewa Bridge.

He said Police presence in the form of patrols had increased, but this did not deter those wanting to allegedly drink and smoke under the bridge and adjacent areas.

Nausori Town Council special administrator Uma Kant Patel said they would be putting surveillance cameras in those spots and a feed will be given to the Nausori Police Command Centre.

Police have urged the community to work with them.
