As part of giving back to the community programme, Mokani Youth Club and Mokani Methodist Youth yesterday organised a family fun day at the Mokani Village ground.

A COVID-19 vaccine registration booth was also set up for the Mokani community and the nearby villages and settlements.

More than hundred children and their parents/guardians spent the day at the ground to celebrate Easter Monday filled with fun sports activities for the children, including mix netball, touch rugby, mix volleyball, badminton, relay run and sack racing.

Youth president, Adi Salaseini Vueti said the family fun day would help the Mokani children and parents experience new and challenging activities and their skills unfold.

“It also helps in building confidence in children and parents. This family fun day gives family members and their children a chance to celebrate the meaning of being a family and to spend quality time with their loved ones by participating in fun activities together,” Ms Vueti said.

She highlighted that the health and well-being of the Mokani and the nearby communities were paramount.

“We also partner with the Ministry of Health and encourage our community members and nearby areas to register for the COVID-19 vaccines. The vaccine is critical in protecting all Fijians from the deadly global pandemic. The vaccine is a global effort to fight COVID-19. This is a huge step back to normality for Fiji and its people with hopes that our international borders will open to visitors, restoring the livelihoods for thousands of Fijians and especially to our Mokani relatives and youth members, who depended on the tourism sector,” she said.

“It was a great day for the Mokani community as we can witness the great involvement and spirit from our children, parents, persons living with disabilities and senior citizens. We received lots of positive comments about the day from families, which made it all worth while.

“Our youth team is so grateful to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, our many wonderful families and relatives in Fiji and overseas for supporting this family fun day and COVID-19 vaccine registration.”
