The latest road victim wanted to own a mechanic and panel beater shop, his father revealed yesterday.

Simon Joseph, 22, is the latest fatality on our roads following a two-car smash at Olosara, Sigatoka, on Monday.

The deceased had just bought a vehicle from a local in the area about two months ago.

At their home in Nayawa, Joseph, who is a carpenter, said: “I told him one day it will come true.

“But it will no longer happen.”

Next to him, his wife, Wati Kaur, looked at a passport photo of her son intently and said her son was always concerned of her wellbeing.

“He would ask me if I needed something to eat or anything I wanted, he would go out of his way and make it happen,” she said.

“That was his nature,” she said.

She shared her last moments with her son as he darted out of the house after having his lunch.

“I called, ‘Simon! Simon!’ But he left. I did not know that it was the last time I would see him alive,” she said.

“He was a good boy.”

Police spokesperson Savaira Gonedua said the victim, who was travelling alone, allegedly overtook a vehicle driven by a 31-year-old man accompanied by his wife.

“It is alleged the deceased lost control of his vehicle, while overtaking, veered off the road, and bumped an EFL post,” she said.

“The other vehicle also veered off the road and landed into a ditch. The victim died on the spot while the couple sustained minor injuries, were treated and sent home.”

Police investigation continue.

The victim is survived by his parents and a sister.

The funeral will be held today. The funeral rites will be done at Koromumu Cemetery at 1.30 pm.
