The former Marist Old Boys Association president, accused of assaulting a 17-year-old student, has been granted bail by the Magistrates Court in Suva.

Esika Macu Bolatagane Manulevu appeared before Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara yesterday, charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

On March 31, Manulevu, while trying to break a fight between the students, allegedly assaulted the 17-year-old complainant by punching him, causing him actual bodily harm.

Manulevu’s lawyer David Toganivalu sought bail for his client as there was no domestic relationship between the accused and the complainant.

Manulevu has been granted bail on a personal bail bond of $2000. He has been ordered not to make any contact with the complainant and prosecution witnesses.

He is also ordered not to leave the jurisdiction without the court’s permission.

The matter will be called for mention on May 12.
