Games For Our Frontliners: Waqa

The unignorable and ever-changing Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics national finals, otherwise known as the Coca Cola Games is set to go.
These were the words of Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association secretary, Vuli Waqa, during the lightning of the Games torch at the Coca-Cola headquarters at Laucala Beach, Suva, yesterday.
He said the torch might not travel but the spirit is well and truly alive.
“Although, this year the torch will not be travelling around the country as it did in previous years that will not deter the athletes or the spirit of the Games,” Waqa said.
“We missed out last year due to COVID-19 and this year Fijians will want to come out in numbers and support their school.
“It’s an annual event filled with vibrant colours, cheering from schools and off course the old scholars, sportsmanship, fierce rivalry and loads of fun.”
The ANZ Stadium in Suva will play host to 2500 athletes from a diverse range of schools over three-days of intense competition.
The Coke Games is from April 22-24.
Speaking to SUNsports, Waqa said the Coca-Cola Games this year would be dedicated to the frontliners who have worked hard to keep Fiji safe.
“They are the reason the Games is being held this year.
“They’ve worked tirelessly to make sure that we’re all safe and the reason why we’re having the Games.”
Defending champions Ratu Kadavulevu School and Adi Cakobau School students will carry the torch to the ANZ Stadium during the opening ceremony.
