Jed Taylor has paved the way for transgenders in the country.

The 25-year-old hails from Rotuma with maternal links to the hidden paradise, Savusavu.

He is determined to be a model of advocacy for transgender people when it comes to the sensitive topic, because of the stigma involved.

A charismatic personality, Taylor, is passionate about the fashion industry and the creative arts.

He sees the lack of transgender participation as an opportunity to be explored by talented transgender individuals who needed to be bold and assertive in creative expression and life in general as he has been doing.

“There is a need for a balanced gender representation, and I feel that for us in Fiji we are lacking representation of transgender Pacific models,” Taylor said.

“We have great potential to administer in the world of being runway models for designers.”

Taylor began modelling in Fiji’s fashion events in 2018, but hopes for international exposure.

“To represent Fiji on the international stage as a transgender model would be an opportunity of a lifetime,” Taylor said.

Stigma has been a hurdle that Taylor has overcome throughout his years of exposure in the creative arts.

“When I first started, it was difficult because people told me that I would not relate to any audience and that there was no market out there for me, but I took that as a challenge and did my research,” Taylor said.

“I tried to understand the markets in the art industry and see how I can be innovative with that and that is how Wehi Fiji was born with my business partners and I.”

Apart from chasing his passion and glamour in modelling, Taylor is also an entrepreneur.

“I own a hair and make-up business called, ‘Face Junky by Jed Taylor’.”

“In addition, I am also a co-director of Wehi Fiji which is a performing arts consultancy business run by me and two other friends.”
