Let’s Go Local: Fareed On Grace Road

Nouzab Fareed will be remembered for the prosperous heights he took Fijian Holdings to when he was group chief executive officer.
Mr Fareed, now CEO of Tengy Cement, is known for his outgoing and sociable nature.
He does not shy away from the media.
In fact, he does not pull his punches.
He believes he might be the only Fijian member of the Travellers Century Club.
“I’m a travel centurion -I’ve travelled to 125 countries – and I’ve not seen another Fiji,” Mr Fareed said.
The travel club comprises global travellers who have visited over 100 countries.
The club dates back to its Californian foundations in 1954 and has more than 1400 members around the world.
What is the one place in Fiji you would take visitors to, and why?
Taveuni.
The Garden Island where time stands still.
Time does not pass there.
Tranquility is one word that summarises Taveuni for me.
It’s very peaceful, cool, calm, no crowd, less traffic.
I was there in 2006 and did not see much change when I went again in 2020.

A view of Taveuni.
What is your favourite place for coffee/pie, and why?
Grace Road, Harbour Point, Lami.
Parking is not a problem.
The restaurant is clean, neat and tidy, with service to match.
What is your favouirite backyard spot, and why?
My own backyard.
I love to sit there for the scenery, it’s very windy.
It is shaded by trees and a cool place to be in the summer.
In fact, it’s the perfect spot for a cuppa Ceylon tea.
I love my Ceylon tea, and I enjoy entertaining – this spot does that for me.
The location is a secret.
What is one place in Fiji that remains on your bucket list, and why?
The Bay of Islands in the Lau group.
Many times, we made attempts to cruise there, but it never eventuated.
Someday, I will have to charter a yacht, pile it with my friends, and sail off.
