The Fijian 7s training squad went on their early morning run at the Sigatoka sand dunes on Friday.

To their surprise, there was a light in the sand dunes and waiting for them was sevens wizard Waisale Serevi.

Serevi, his wife Karalaini and daughter Unaisi have just got out of their 14-day quarantine.

Meanwhile, 7s head coach Gareth Baber was the chief guest at the Namasi 7s tournament at Nadovu Park, Lautoka, yesterday.

Speaking to SUNsports Baber reiterated the importance of the current squad to play some international matches.

“Let’s keep playing the game the way we do, but we do know that when we get to international rugby there’s going to be elements of the game like discipline, quality of tackles and defensive shape that we have to be better in if we want to win the (Olympic) gold medal,” he said.

Baber said they are looking at playing against Australia and New Zealand.

“I know there’s other countries that are playing around the world. There had been a tournament in Dubai over the last two weeks, where Argentina won,” he said.

“They (Argentina) played in Spain previously, so you know it’s in our heads that other teams are getting out there and playing international rugby.

“But look what we use is what we’ve got here in Fiji.

“That is the quality and strength of rugby that we’ve got here in Fiji.

“Now I want to go and test that against Australia, and New Zealand.”

Baber said at the moment they’re finalising the trip since there are lots of issues in relation to travel, quarantine and COVID-19 vaccines.
