Isoa William Cagi is among Swami Vivekananda College’s medal hopefuls during the 2021 Coca-Cola Games which starts at the ANZ Stadium, Suva, next Thursday.

He clocked good times during the Nadi Secondary Schools Athletics Zone meet at Churchill Park, Lautoka on March 12.

He scooped three gold medals in 1500metres, 800m and anchored the 4 x 400m relay team.

In 2020, the relay team won first place at the zone but could not take part in the Coke Games.

And this is Cagi’s last chance to participate in the Fiji Finals.

“I would like to make my coaches proud, before I leave school,” he said.

“My biggest motivation is being the captain of the team.”

Sprinter Apenisa Talenaua is tipped to win the senior boys 100m.

Former student Tilash Naidi won the blue ribbon event in 2000 and 2001.

Talenaua, who hails from Cakaudrove, clocked 10.69 secs and is expected to face stiff competition from Tevita Sokiveta (Suva Grammar School) and Josevata Rasoi (Natabua High School).

“Our strength is in our field events especially the high jumpers,” coach Deepak Narayan said.

Meanwhile, athletes in the West will have another chance to improve their performance at the Athletics Fiji competition at Churchill Park, Lautoka on Saturday.

Athletes will compete in the 1,500m, 100, 50, 400, relays, long jump, Shot put javelin and triple jump. The event will begin at 11am.
