The Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere said this vaccination is the benefit of his people.

Ratu Wiliame said this after he received his first AstraZeneca shot at the Macuata Tikina Building on Wednesday.

He said he understood people’s reservations towards the vaccination drive.

But for him personally, he said: “I had to be vaccinated because it’s for my people and I interact with a lot of people in my various meetings.

“I also travel a lot overseas for the purpose of development.

“It is something I have to stand for, taking this I have to show people that this is something that we have to do.

“If we value our future, value our life we need to take the vaccine as I did this morning.

“I am feeling ok with no side effects despite being informed that I may become nauseated or even weak.

“I can gladly say that I am fit,” he said.

Ratu Wiliame said he registered online and the process was simple.

All he had to do, like everyone else whose completed their registration, was to produce a valid photo identification at the vaccination location.

He is urging those that work in the communities, non-governmental organisations and other frontline workers to get vaccinated to keep themselves and their families safe.

The COVID-19 vaccination campaign will continue at the Macuata Tikina Building until Saturday.

Hotel vaccination drive

Yesterday, more than twenty hotel workers received the AstraZeneca vaccine at the Galaxy Hotel and Apartments in Labasa.

General Manager for Galaxy Hotel & Apartments Ranil Ravikash Deo said: “We are frontline workers and we meet a lot of people that come to the hotel or hire rental cars.

“We also receive our customers at the airport and bring them to the hotel.

“It’s really important in our line of work because we meet a lot of people.

“Most of them are coming from overseas and even from Viti Levu.

“To keep our loved ones safe, we have to be vaccinated.”
