The Minister for Youth and Sports Parveen Kumar Bala reminded the youth in the tikina o Nadi in Bua that the Youth Farm Initiative grants given was not a hand-out but a hand-up.

While speaking to the youth at the Nasawana village, Mr Bala said the cyclone and flood had placed food security and sustainability at risk,.

Therefore it was important for all to maintain the local food supply to ensure our people have access to basic food items, he said.

“We are also aware that the cyclone has caused losses to farmers by destroying the standing crops when in some cases it was time to harvest,” he said.

“I’m confident that this grant will enable all of you to step up and work harder for your families and communities.

“I’m also pleased to handover this grant to the registered youth clubs whereby 318 youth will benefit.

“Therefore I urge all of you to put differences aside, unite and work together for the betterment of our nation. Together We Can.”
