A 10-man Nadi team was held 2-2 by Navua in the fifth round of the Digicel Premier League match at the Uprising Sports Center yesterday.

The Salen Lal-coached side was reduced to 10 men after midfielder Serevi Waqa was red carded late in the second half

Navua came from behind to level the score after sending in super sub Apisai Smith in the dying stages of the game.

Napolioni Qasevakatini and Rusiate Matererega were a thorn in the Navua defence.

Speaking to SUNsports, Navua Coach Amit Prakash applauded his men for playing to the last whistle.

“Last weekend we were in a similar situation and sent in Smith. Again he did just that.

“We knew we had to hang on until the last minute to get the goal.

“There are a lot of areas we will have to work.

“The boys believe in each other until the last whistle.

“Now we’ve to remain consistent and make sure we always start well and make sure we score first and not chasing the game.”

Meanwhile, Nadi Coach Salen Lal said:

“We were winning and the boys started to lose focus allowing Navua to attack.

“The red card really made the difference and the boys had to work overtime.

“We will have to go back, analyze and come well prepared for the next game.”

What happened: Nadi started strongly and missed a goal-scoring opportunity in the 2nd minute when Christopher Kumar failed to capitalise on a one on one situation.

Hosts Navua settled down and started to control the pace of the game but failed to score.

Fifteen minutes into the game both teams took six shots each with seven free-kicks to Navua

Nadi was awarded a free kick in the 24th minute that was missed by Qasevakatini.

Navua’s Taniela Dakariva missed a golden opportunity in the 43rd minute after he failed to capitalize from corner kick.

Halftime: Navua 0-0 Nadi
