Daniel Lal wants to lift the standard of club competitions in Lautoka.

Lal was recently elected president of the Lautoka Rugby Union and 12 teams competed in the season launching on Saturday.

“The competition involves all our clubs where we will select our Under-19, our team for the Vanua Shield and then we go from there,”Lal said.

“We’ve already appointed our coach and two assistants for our Vanua team.

“We’ve already present our sevusevu to Tui Vuda, we will be going to the Tui Vitogo and to Taukei Vidilo.

“I believe everything needs to be done in a planned way.

“You can’t have too much of one influence in sport and we will need to work together.”

He said the new executive committee had two meetings to set the platform with a set timeframe for their future and immediate strategies.

Lautoka and Yasawa were demoted from the Skipper Cup last and the Vanua Shield kicks off on May 15.

Union chairman Major Savenaca Rabuka said they adopted a terms of participation document.

“We are one of the two unions in Fiji to have adopted this for our club competition. We have terms of participation for the Skipper Cup, we have terms of participation for the Vanua Shield, only

Lautoka is the second union in Fiji Naitasiri is the first union,” he said.

He said the main goal now was to work on getting club games up and running smoothly,

“To work from the club level, and once it runs well, the trickling effect will go right up to the main team so we can have a large number of players we can pull from to select to play for the Vanua competition and the Skipper Cup next year,” he said.
