Today Ashna covered the following court proceedings:
1. The 26-year-old Canadian national, Joshua Aziz Rahman, will be sentenced on April 30.
Rahman, who is convicted for being in possession of 39.5 kilograms of cocaine worth $31 million, appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar at the High Court in Suva.
2. A man who is alleged to have set fire to the Saint Giles Hospital last month, has been remanded in custody by the High Court in Suva.
Vereamu Navuso appeared before Justice Rangajeeva Wimalasena.
3. The deceased’s father yesterday testified that Congo national and murder accused, Kiala Henri Lusaka was aggressive and threatening when he spoke to him to wish Lusaka for his birthday.
Testifying to the High Court in Suva via Skype, murder victim Jennifer Anne Downes’ father Christopher Downes told the court that Lusaka said to him “I am going to give all of you a big surprise”
4. The Anti-Corruption Magistrates Court in Suva has fixed hearing dates for five SODELPA Parliamentarians and one former FijiFirst Parliamentarian.
FijiFirst Member of Parliament Vijendra Prakash, SODELPA MPs Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, Salote Radrodro, Adi Litia Qionibaravi, Peceli Vosanibola, Simione Rasova, and Niko Nawaikula are charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
