The Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Hon. Rosy Akbar has expressed her disappointment towards the way a Central Division Head of School handled the COVID-19 reporting and communication protocol today.

“It is rather unfortunate that the details of the student had been released and is now circulating on social media.”

“As a Ministry we always strive to protect the interest of all our Fijian children and we remind the public to be mindful of the sensitivity surrounding this issue.”

“We urge the public to refrain from sharing such confidential information.”

“During these unprecedented times, we expect support from the public and believe you will work together with the Fijian Government in ensuring that our children are always protected and remain paramount.”

“We are all fighting this battle together and we are at a time when we need to work in solidarity and show the true Fijian spirit of brotherhood in protecting lives”, says Minister Akbar.

The Head of School has been suspended from duties until further notice.

All School Heads and Teachers are cautioned to exercise confidentiality when dealing with issues related to Child Safety and Protection.
