MSAF: Travel Restrictions Due To COVID-19

1. Given the announcement by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Health and Medical  Services Dr James Fong on 21st April, 2021, this notice serves to inform all maritime  stakeholders that effective from midday today (22/04/2021) at 1200 hrs, all passenger  travels to outer islands will cease. 

2. All marine clearances on passenger travel will cease from 1200 hrs on 22nd April, 2021 until  further notice. However, ships carrying cargo will continue with increased volume to ensure  food and other essential goods are supplied to the islands. 

3. Passenger travel out of Viti Levu will not be allowed until further advised. Passenger travel  into Viti Levu will be allowed. 

4. For inter-island shipping movement, please note:- 

 

Small crafts and yachts intending to transport essential provisions between Viti Levu and  closer islands are required to inform the Maritime Surveillance Center on toll free number  1539 or email operations@mrscfiji.org on their travel intentions. The following information  should also be provided to the Centre. 

i) Name of Boat Captain 

ii) Name and Number of Crew 

iii) Cargo 

iv) Departure and Destination Point 

v) MSAF Issued Boat Number 

vi) Phone Contact 

 

All Fishing Related Activities 

Fijians wishing to fish for subsistence and commercial purposes during curfew hours, may  do so, provided the fishermen depart their respective homes well before the curfew hours.

RORO and Conventional Vessels 

Enquiries regarding any services provided by Ro-Ro and Conventional vessels servicing of  economical and uneconomical routes, please contact the Director of Transport Ms. Faranisese Kinivuwai on 99833245 or Senior Transport Planner Ms. Aseri Driu on 9906244 or  email transportunit.fiji@gmail.com 

The following precautionary measures must be strictly adhered to by all shipping and  trucking companies. 

a) Vessel operators must allow designated commercial goods vehicles (only) with its  drivers to board the vessel; 

b) Vessel operators are to keep a register of details for all drivers who board the vessels,  including contact details;

c) All drivers and vessel operators are to wear Personal Protective Equipment at all times;

d) All drivers and vessel operators are to discourage crew members from unnecessarily  disembarking at ports and jetties and socializing at these points. A 2-meter physical  distancing rule should apply;

e) For inter-island shipping, operators and crew are to offload cargo and freight at a  designated location on the jetty or port with minimal contact;

f) Drivers can move with their vehicles and deliver in outlying island. However,  drivers/vehicles when disembarking the vessel must not at any time get out of the  vehicle and must after delivery immediately, either return to the vessel or to a  designated location awaiting the return trip;

g) Truckers and vessel operators are to ensure that proper precautionary measures are  taken , including wearing the PPEs such as face masks, regular washing of hands, using  hand sanitizers, and 2-meter physical distancing;

h) Members of the public collecting freight are to collect from the designated location,  practicing social distancing.

They are not to board the vessel under any circumstances; i) All turaga ni koros are to liaise with the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs for more information.
