All cooked food vendors in Lautoka are not allowed to sell food, says Lautoka and Ba Board Special Administrators Chair Debra Sadranu.

She said the Lautoka City Council has enforced safety measures within the markets including decentralised markets.

Ms Sadranu said the Council was also liaising with the Agro-Marketing Authority for the supply and distribution of market produce from outside the lockdown areas

“At Lautoka Municipal Market and Tavakubu Satellite Market: Social distancing and sanitisation, face masks and gloves are to be observed. Decentralised markets at at-least two other locations are to be looked at on a need basis,” she said.

She said the vendors have been allowed to buy directly from the suppliers at the borders, with only produce to be sent across and strictly no persons allowed to cross the borders.

“We also reminded the vendors that they should all be wearing the face mask and gloves; all cooked food vendors are not allowed to sell food. All vendors present on 20/04/2021 were given a hand sanitizer each,” she said.

She said market vendors have been reminded not to bring their children to the market and not to peel pineapples, mixing of juice and mixing of grog.

“Council services are normal, except that sporting and recreational facilities are closed, field visits and inspections by Council staff are minimised to lessen the risk of spreading COVID-19.”

“Grass cutting and drain cleaning will continue as normal but with strict observance of COVID-19 protocols by Council staff and Contractors.”
