Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services Dr James Fong is acknowledging Fijians who have adopted the lifestyle of wearing masks.

Before beginning his press conference yesterday, he demonstrated the safe way of handling masks and the importance of using a hand sanitiser.

“I hope everyone has a mask or has made a capable substitute. Importantly, I hope you are wearing it every time you leave your house. In a taxi, on a bus, in the supermarket. If you are not at home, wear a mask,” Dr Fong said.

“I want to thank all those who have adopted this life-saving habit. Please help us encourage everyone to follow your example, not only to wear a mask but to do it properly, with your mouth and nose both fully covered.”

Media personnel that attended the press conference were advised to install and activate the CareFIJI mobile app, stand apart, wear mask and sanitise.

Dr Fong reminded everyone that COVID-19 can travel through the air and through tiny droplets that pass from person-to-person within a close distance.

“The more Fijians wear masks and wear them properly and adhere to physical distancing, the better chance we stand at becoming a COVID-Contained country once again.”
