Most of Suva’s retail outlets will be closed today, following a directive from the Suva Retailers Association.

Association president Jitesh Patel said the instructions was effective from 7pm yesterday, following a national order for people to curtail unnecessary movement.

On Friday, permanent secretary for Health, Dr James Fong announced restricted movement from 7pm Saturday to 4am Monday.

“Only supermarkets and pharmacies will be open today,” Mr Patel said.

Follow guidelines

“Retailers are encouraged to adhere to all necessary COVID-safe protocols and guidelines as announced by Dr Fong and enforced by the Ministry of Health and Medical Service and the Fiji Police Force: wearing of masks and gloves, download and use the careFIJI App, maintain social distancing and most importantly to stay at home and restrict any and all unnecessary movements.

A shared responsibility

“The Association believes that we have a shared responsibility to ensure that our family, staff and customers are safe.

“This will only be possible with our collective efforts and by working together.

“If you need more information or clarity with regards to the COVID protocols or guidelines, contact 158 or follow the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Facebook page.”
