The first two cases in Ra have been treated “as instances of community transmission”, the Permanent Secretary for Health Medical Services, Dr James Fong, said yesterday at the press conference.

These are cases that have no known link to other cases or international travel, he said.

As a result of the breaches at the Tanoa Hotel border quarantine facility, Dr Fong said there could have been infectious staff members who transmitted the virus to individuals during their 14-day quarantine period.

“When we tested them at the end of their quarantine, we could have missed a soon-to-be-positive patient,” Dr Fong said.
