Yachts berthed at the Copra Shed in Savusavu on May 10, 2021.

There are currently four yachts in Savusavu harbour under the provisions of the Blue Lane.

These are Discovery, Swell, Trance and Oceansapphire.

They have all completed the mandatory quarantine and health checks and are now free to enjoy Savusavu.

Seema Dutt, chief executive officer of Savusavu Town Council, says: “It has been exciting to see some new faces walking round town and we’re very pleased to be able to give the visitors our well-known warm welcome.”

Local businesses have been happy with the trade: Raj Kumar runs the greengrocer in the Waterfront building and has been welcoming their trade: “They are happy to be able to get good quality fruit and vegetables now that they have reached land.”

“The Blue Lane is working very well,” says Geoff Taylor, partner in the Copra Shed Marina, “and we’re looking forward to further arrivals later this month.”

Port Denarau Marina and Savusavu Bay are the only two approved ports of entry for the Blue Lane initiative.

The Blue Lane initiative was pioneered through the Fijian COVID Safe Economic Recovery Framework to allow a safe restart for growing our blue tourism industry.

This was done to help assist in the recovery of our tourism sector in light of COVID-19.
