About 20,000 texts and calls were received from the public since the food ration request was activated.

This was confirmed by the Manager/Coordinator Infrastructure Sector at the Ministry of Economy Kamal Gounder.

He said they had to conduct a data-cleansing exercise after residents alleged that a few requests were made from the same home.

“There are people renting in houses like for example in one house there can be three flats so each flat will receive one food pack each.

“Team leaders will ensure that all protocols are followed.

“We are asking Fijians to be honest with the distribution. They need to make sure that one food pack is for one household.

“The distribution for the entire the Suva-Nausori corridor is spread into 11 zones.

“There are 40 vehicles and around 110 officials assisting from the Ministry of Economy, RFMF (Republic of Fiji Military Forces), Police, Fiji Corrections Service, Min of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture, WAF (Water Authority of Fiji), LTA (Land Transport Authority), Ministry of Education, Ministry of Forestry.”
