Husband, 58, Charged For Attempted Murder

A man who is alleged to have stabbed his wife’s hand at a restaurant in Nadi was denied bail by the Nadi Magistrates Court.
Krishna Kumar, 58, appeared before Magistrate Nirosha Kannangara.
He is charged for one count of attempted murder.
The Court heard that on May 15, Kumar went to his wife’s workplace, a fast food restaurant, and attacked her with a knife.
He was alleged to have slashed one of her hands and threatened her workmates.
The victim was rushed to the Nadi hospital and later airlifted to the CWM Hospital due to the seriousness of the wounds she sustained.
The accused told the Court he assaulted his wife because she goes to work at 4am and returned home late.
“She had no time with the family. She is not listening to me or even supporting me and our grandchildren,” Kumar said
Police prosecutor Inspector Parmesh Chand said the couple’s family members alleged that the accused suffered from psychological problems resulting in his violent actions.
Defence lawyer Eparama Sailo applied for bail and denied that his client Kumar had psychological issues.
Mr Sailo said his client was not living with his wife.
He further told the Court that the accused was willing to abide by any restrictions given if bail was granted.
However, Inspector Chand objected to bail.
Magistrate Kannangara remanded Kumar at the Namaka Remand Centre.
The matter was adjourned to May 31 for mention at the High Court in Lautoka.
