Suva was at its usual yesterday as commuters came in numbers to do their shopping and travel to work after the four-day Suva-Nausori lockdown ended at 4am yesterday.

Members of the public could be seen flocking around the Suva municipal market and at major shopping centers as the shopping frenzy continued through the afternoon.

Nadera resident Clayton Daniel was thankful for the lifting of the lockdown but cautioned on travelling because people were still at risk.

“I commute daily by bus to work and have to take precaution because I have children at home” Mr Daniel said.

Suva Retailers Association president Jiten Patel welcomed the opening of businesses in Suva and emphasised the importance of retailers observing COVID-19 safe protocols.

“The shopping frenzy was expected as the big crowd came to cash their $90 shopping and stock up on essentials,” Mr Patel said.

“The message is clear that all shops have to adhere to protocols set up.”
