Tavoro Waterfall in Taveuni (Left) and Ra Diver’s divemaster Timoci Vunisa (Right).

Meet Timoci (Jim) Vunisa.

Jim is as he is commonly known as is a divemaster at Ra Divers, Volivoli Beach Resort’s diving business arm.

“I have lived in Ra all my life and was born in the Ra Maternity Hospital in 1997,” he said.

“My home is in Navalou # 2 village.

“I went to Navalou District Primary School, followed by Nasouri Lelean Memorial School.

“I did two years at the Fiji National University where I studied mathematics and computer science.

“I am married with two gorgeous young daughters.

“One daughter is two-years old .

“The youngest just five-months – so as you can imagine they are a handful.”

Volivoli Beach Resort is like a second home.

“We dive right in the heart of Fiji every day, so I have the best worksite in the world.

“We get to meet lots of guests from around the world who come to explore the Bligh Water.

“Many of them become my friends and extended overseas family.”

For anyone thinking about a career in diving, his advice: “I can highly recommend it.

“I count myself lucky every day.

“Come and see me and I’ll tell you more.”

How many places have you visited in Fiji?

I have never been outside of Viti Levu.

However I have been to Sigatoka, Tavua, Nadi, Suva and Lautoka.

Where else except the Bligh Water would you like to dive?

I think for me I would like to see Beqa Lagoon, shark feed dive and also Namena Marine Reserve.

What do you like to do on your days off?

Spend time with family, playing with my daughters and enjoying time with my wife.

What’s one place you’d take every visitor to Fiji and why?

I would definitely say the Suncoast as there is so much to do, nearby islands, waterfalls, fishing, snorkelling, dolphins, history, markets and of course the beautiful weather and sunsets.

What’s your secret backyard favourite spot?

Nananu-i-Ra Island – white beaches, quiet, nice snorkelling, fishing and safe for the kids to play.

What’s one Fiji spot on the top of your bucket list?

Taveuni.

I would like to see the sights and beauty of the Garden Island as I have never been there.
