Four cases of COVID-19 were recorded among Republic of Fiji Military Forces medical personnel.  As a result, the Queen Elizabeth barracks was cordoned off this morning.

Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Commander, Rear-Admiral Viliame Naupoto has confirmed that the decontamination of the George Mate Medical Center (GMMC) was underway.

“We have done contact tracing and isolation of primary contacts and we are disinfecting areas that need it, including our hospital – George Mate Medical Center.

“We expect to get the GMMC up and running again by Thursday,” he said.

Rear Admiral Naupoto said their level of support to the Ministry of Health operation remained the same as they had been working in bubbles and creating bubbles in anticipation of cases within.

He also urged all RFMF families to adhere to Ministry of Health directives.  Stay home unless it is necessary for you to get supplies. Mask up and stay within your bubble, Rear Admiral Naupoto said.
