Police Set Up More Checkpoints In Suva Containment Area

The Fiji Police Force has erected checkpoints within the Suva containment area to limit unnecessary movement by the public.
This comes after Police noticed an increase in unnecessary movements in the past week.
Police Spokesperson Savaira Tabua said five had been erected within the Suva containment area and more were expected.
On Sunday Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Dr James Fong said recent cases of COVID-19 had admitted that they had been moving around in the community and attending social events such as grog parties.
Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said as the number of reported cases continue to rise he cannot reiterate enough that it was better to be safe than sorry.
“People need to ask themselves if a drinking party or grog session with people from outside their bubble is really worth prolonging the current situation that we are in,” he said.
“As your Acting Commissioner of Police, all I am asking on behalf of all men and women officers is to sacrifice those few hours and be patient until we have beaten this virus.”
He pleaded with members of the public to adhere to the advisories and restrictions and stay home, in order to contain and beat the virus rather than focusing on what could and what should have been done.
