Some businesses could thrive during this COVID-19 pandemic depending on the nature of the business says Rege Motors owner Rajendra Prasad.

Mr Prasad, a 44-year-old father runs an automotive repair shop in Tuatua, Labasa.

He said last year he learnt to obey all COVID-19 protocols and restrictions at the height of the pandemic.

“When you put God first in everything you do, including giving your tithe, surely you will not be shaken by any pandemic,” Mr Prasad said.

Mr Prasad said it was all about being obedient.

“When Vunicagi Settlement and Soasoa in Macuata were under lockdown I used that time to carry out necessary repair works and maintenance of my garage,” Mr Prasad said.

He said as soon as the lockdown was lifted he expanded his business into a rental company and six-months later provided car wash services.

“And again we are going through the same phase where we are required to follow the advice from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services,” he said.

The Year 10 school dropout of Labasa Sangam College said he knew what it meant to struggle in the world of business.

“I couldn’t study further because my parents were not rich,” the father of two said.

He said from the age of 15, he worked in numerous garages and also worked as a truck driver.

At the age of 21, he set up his own small garage in Waiqele, Labasa.

The third eldest of six siblings originally from Siberia, Labasa said he started off employing two people and today he has nine workers.

He also works with many insurance companies repairing accident vehicles.
