Two Men Allegedly Sold Labasa Hospital Oxygen Gas Released On Bail

Two men alleged to have sold two medical oxygen gas cylinders which belonged to the Labasa Hospital were released on bail by the Magistrates Court in Labasa yesterday.
Emenual Pillay and Amitesh Prasad are former employees of Oceania Gas Limited and are jointly charged with one count of theft.
They appeared before Magistrate Bimsara Jaodage represented by Legal Aid Commission counsel.
Summary of Facts
On December 31, 2020 Sumeet Singh, branch manager of Oceania Gas Limited reported that last year between November13 to December, 2020, the two accused while being employed dishonestly appropriated two medical oxygen gas cylinders valued at $2,300 and with medical oxygen gas valued at $167.56.
They both knew very well that the said items were already purchased by the Labasa Hospital.
However, they sold the items to a local garage namely Naidu’s Crown Motor Repairs at Tuatua, Labasa for the sum of $200 without any invoice. Prosecutor Sergeant Vignesh Prasad told the court that the recovery of the gas cylinders has been made. Magistrate Jaodage released the two on a bail sum of $1,000 each and told them not to reoffend or to interfere with any state witnesses.
He also ordered the release of exhibits to Oceania Gas Limited which is now needed in the hospital. The was case adjourned for mention to July 5.
