The Fijian 7s coach, Gareth Baber, is talking with the overseas-based players who are in contention to make the squad to the Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.

This was confirmed by Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor.

He indicated that due to closure of borders and the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it has disrupted international flights.

“But Gareth had been talking to the players and also about their clearance from their clubs as well.”

In an earlier interview, Baber had indicated his interests on Semi Kunatani, Semi Radradra, Aminiasi Tuimaba and Vilimoni Botitu.

He has ruled out Kunatani because of injury.

Botitu and Tuimaba have been play regularly for their clubs in the French Top 14.

Botitu recently extended his contract with Castres while Tuimaba has been scoring almost every weekend for Pau.

Radradra has been playing for Bristol Bears in the Champions Cup.

If the three players are going to the Olympics they will miss out on the two Test matches against the All Blacks on July 10 and 17.

The Olympic Games will be from July 23 to August 8.
