The Ministry of Health and Medical Services currently has four quarantine facilities in operation in Nadi and four in the Greater Suva Area.

Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said quarantine facilities were places where people were quarantined during the incubation period of a disease for 14 days.

Isolation facilities, on the other hand, were where the sick were taken and isolated and looked after. This can be a hospital health facility or a community isolation centre.

“In Nadi, at the moment we are using Nalagi, Tanoa International Hotel, Nasau Resort and Sofitel. In which we have 222 Fijians in these facilities,” Dr Waqainabete said.

“Since the increase in the number of cases that we have had in the Central Division, after thorough assessments we have designated Grand Pacific Hotel, James Cook Hotel, Holiday Inn and Peninsula Hotel as quarantine facilities,” he said.

“There are about 151 Fijians being quarantined in these hotels.”

He added that some quarantine facilities were staff of the Ministry of Health.

“Each quarantine facility is assessed and manned by our officers. All hotel staff are briefed on all procedures and protocols together with our support staff who are working with us with the safety of those in these facilities.”
