The Ministry of Economy has opened applications for the $50 assistance for individuals who have not been receiving any other form of assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic across Viti Levu.

Eligible Fijians will be paid through Vodafone M-PAiSA or Digicel MYCash accounts.

“This time around, the amount is $50 as opposed to $90 that was given out before. However, the difference being that this time around, the $50 can be applied for by individuals,” he said.

“The $90 was for households. Now, you get $50 for individuals. So, you can actually have a household, in which you may have five individuals over the age of 18, they’ll all be eligible for $50 in other words that household overall will get $250.”

He said that last roll out of the $90 assistance 20,000 applicants were already getting FNPF assistance.

He urged Fijians to not try to cheat the system.

“If you are getting assistance, please also understand that there are those regions who currently aren’t getting assistance, who do not qualify,” he said.

Those who cannot apply include Civil Servants, those individuals in the formal sector who were already receiving assistance, those receiving FNPF pension scheme, those receiving TELS Scholarship allowances, those still receiving Toppers student allowances and those who receive social welfare assistance.

Any others receiving some sorts of assistance through FNPF amid the pandemic are not eligible for the $50 assistance.
