FICAC to Investigate Nawaikula
SODELPA MP Niko Nawaikula.

Social Democratic Liberal Party Member of Parliament Niko Nawaikula will be investigated by the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption.

This is in relation to statements he made in Parliament yesterday during the debate on the Electoral (Registration of Voters) (Amendment) Bill 2020.

While making his contributions, Mr Nawaikula said there was great concern in the proposal to change the current Voter Identification Cards.

“It will also be a problem for a lot of people even for me because the name I am using now is Niko Nawaikula as opposed to the name which is in my birth certificate,” he said.

He went on further to question Parliament why amendments were being done now if the last general election was done smoothly.

In a statement, Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption would investigate whether Mr Nawaikula provided a false declaration to a registration official when he made an application to replace his Voter Card on June 22, 2017.

“This matter is being reported in light of Hon. Nawaikula’s statement in Parliament mentioning that his name is not correct on the Voter Card.”

Several attempts made to contact Mr Nawaikula for his comments were unsuccessful.
