Hart Residents Get Food Packs
Residents of Korovou, Newtown receive food packages.

The Balgovind Road in Nadawa group distributed food packs to 10 families residing in Valelevu Hart assisting the needy in times of COVID-19.

The food rations consist of 10kg rice, 5kg flour, 2kg potatoes, garlic, noodles, biscuits, soya bean oil, sugar, dhal, tea leaves and tuna, all worth $50.

The five-team member group is made up of the Head of Department Languages at Nabua Secondary School and Fiji Teachers Union’s Assistant General Secretary Rajnesh Ishwar Lingam, his father Ram Lingam, Rohit Lingam, James Swamy and Kartik Raj.

Group team leader, Rajnesh Lingam said they had seen many organisations and groups donating and distributing rations so it got us thinking if they could do it then why we cannot do so.

“Our priority and prayer is that no one should go to sleep with an empty stomach.”

Mr Lingam said the donations were possible with the support from their friends and families from Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and United States, and Mr Lingam’s former students from Savusavu Secondary School who collected and contributed to the food packs.

From April before lockdown in the Central Division took place, the group has collected about $9000 and distributed close to 203 food ration packs to Fijians in need.

Food ration recipient, Akanisi Latu, 63, said the food packs were a blessing for her as Fiji was going through tough times with COVID-19.

Ms Latu is physical immobile and lived alone at the Valelevu Hart for 10 years now.
