The Namulomulo village headman, Osea Solika denied claims made by the Permanent Secretary Health and Medical Services Dr James Fong.

Dr Fong on Sunday said that in the course of contact tracing investigations, it has been found that a funeral was held recently in Namulomulo Village, Nadi, with nearly 100 people in attendance.

Mr Solika said he was present at the funeral and he knew the exact numbers of people present during the funeral.

“I was not happy with the news because it was totally in contrast with the work I am doing here in the village in maintaining strict safety measures for the villagers,” he said.

“We had to ensure the limitation of the number of funeral protocols set by the Ministry of Health.”

Mr Solika said there were about 20 people who attended the funeral including the pastor.

Currently, funerals are restricted to no more than ten people.

Meanwhile Dr Fong said: “That was the story I got from the team on the ground from the West. They went to look for one positive person at Namulomulo Village and they were very clear about what they saw. They even spoke with the Turaga-ni-Koro (village headman).”

He added that the report was repeated again yesterday’s morning brief.
