‘Jab For Your Safety’

The COVID-19 vaccine is scientifically proven to help fight the virus so there is nothing to fear or panic about, says Dr Rachael Devi.
Dr Devi is the Head of COVID-19 Vaccination Taskforce.
While referring to anti-vaccine videos circulated on social media, she said they are a hoax.
“If a magnet is placed on a wet surface then definitely the magnet will stick to its surface, it’s simple common sense,” she said.
She added that there was no metallic substance in the vaccine, as proven by scientists.
Dr Devi said people should not worry, they should take the vaccine for their own safety.
“Despite the North being COVID contained, we will see to it that the vaccines are made available to all citizens,” she said.
“We need 70, 000 doses every week to run this vaccination drive so everything depends on how fast we receive the doses from overseas”.
She said close to 10,495 people have received their first jabs in the Northern Division.
“113 people in the Northern division have already been fully vaccinated with their two jabs.”
Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has emphasised the need for people in Vanua Levu and the rest of Fiji to get vaccinated and to help ease the current lockdowns and restrictions in place.
Ratu Wiliame said people easily get manipulated when bogus and non-scientific information got circulated on social media and other websites.
“Videos like this portrays a negative side of their society where people tend to get affected in their decision-making process when they consume such information,” he said.
“We cannot change people’s mindset and focus on whether or not to take the vaccine as it was their individual rights.”
However, he encouraged members of the public to get jabbed as it was the only way to stay protected from this virus.
