Research vessel Yuan Wang 5 together with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to port operators in Suva.

Fiji Ports Corporation Limited (FPCL) received the donation on Monday June 7.

Chief executive officer Vajira Piyasena said the supplies would help keep staff safe and protected in the fight against COVID-19.

“We at FPCL are grateful for the support and generous supplies provided by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China delivered by the Yuan Wang 5 Vessel.

“These supplies will assist in the fight against COVID19 to keep our frontline staff at FPCL safe and protected while they continue to ensure smooth running of all operations,” said Mr Piyasena.

Acting as the representative for the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and Yuanwang 5 vessel; Tevita Nainocawas handed over PPE supplies to FPCL.

Amongst the supplies donated were disposable masks, medical gloves, disinfectants, hand sanitizers, protecting clothing and thermometers.

The research vessel was built in 2007 and currently sailing under the flag of China and had made several trips to Fiji.
