6 Operations Done So Far On MV Veivueti

Six major operations have been carried out on medical ship, MV Veivueti, since it began its services in Suva on Saturday.
This is after the declaration of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital as a COVID-19 facility.
Head of the Fiji Emergency Medical Assistance Team (FEMAT) Dr Luke Nasedra said the operation team was operating from two facilities, the MV Veivueti and the Pacific Eye Institute in Brown Street.
“The MV Veivueti is operating for 24 hours as well with 12 medical personnel providing services to all cases referred to the vessel to be operated on,” Dr Nasedra said.
He said baby deliveries continued to be carried out at the CWM Hospital but those who had presented themselves at the field hospital would go ahead with their delivery as it was an emergency case.
“Only emergency cases for non-negative patients are carried out at the Vodafone Arena as CWM Hospital remains a COVID-19 facility.”
Dr Nasedra said his team would continue to work on ensuring that the ministry’s normative functions continued despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
