Seventh-day Church Encourages Members To Take COVID-19 Jab

The choice not to be vaccinated should not be seen as the dogma nor the doctrine of the Seventh-day Adventist church says the President of the Fiji Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist church Nasoni Lutunaliwa.

Mr Lutunaliwa said they encouraged their members to be vaccinated, but they also recognised individual choices.

Mr Lutunaliwa responded to claims made that people were not getting vaccinated because they had been advised by the church.

He said people should not use religion as an excuse not to receive the vaccine.

“We encourage our members to be vaccinated because they have to think of others and not themselves. But it depends on them at the end of the day,” Mr Lutunaliwa said.

“Vaccination is important to fight COVID-19 and this is the time where everyone should come together as one and help each other.

“The Government is doing their part and we have to do ours.”

The Seventh-day Adventist Church on their Adventist Record website issued an official statement on vaccines, saying it encouraged responsible immunisation.

“To maximise the safety of the population, between 70-90 per cent of the population need to have immunity to the virus. Natural infection is not likely to provide this level of protection; this is where the vaccination comes in,” the statement stated.
