A 75-year-old father is mourning the loss of his eldest son, Janesh Prasad who was killed by a tornado in South Auckland on Saturday.

An emotional Ram Naresh described his son as a man with a “beautiful soul” who was “humble and caring”.

The 41-year-old deceased also known as Pravin of Daku Labasa was a Forklift mechanic who was working at the time the tornado struck.

“My son was someone that was loved by everyone. He was someone my wife and I could rely on,” Mr Naresh said.

He said his son would financially support him, his wife and disabled daughter.

He said his son built their house in Nausori making sure his parents had a home before he left for New Zealand in 2014 in search for a better life.

“It hurts me that this has happened to him. I never thought that he would die like this,” he said.

“I do not know what will happen now. He always sends money every two weeks because no one in my family works, and we depended on him.

“He was someone I could rely on. He was a son who worked hard for his family. He looked after his family in New Zealand and here in Fiji”.

Mr Naresh said his son last came to Fiji in 2019.

“I am still trying to accept that he is no more. The last we spoke was two weeks ago and now that he has passed away how I wish I had talked a little longer with him.

“I miss him so much and I thank God for giving me a son who looked after us very well.”

Mr Prasad will be cremated on Wednesday, 1pm at Ann’s funeral Place, at 11c Bolderwood Place, Auckland Wiri.

Mr Prasad is survived by his wife Mala Archana Devi, as well as a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son.
