After contributing to the development of rural and maritime communities in the Northern Division for the past 14 years, Northern Development Projects (NDP) pioneer officer Waisale Tuidama retires today.

Mr Tuidama, who turned 67 in April, said: “I will be retiring to my village in Nailega, Tailevu, to fully manage the Nawaibuta Holdings Fiji Limited.

“I have enjoyed serving my country for a total of 44 years. I thought I was going to retire after my tenure at the bank (Fiji Development Bank), but God opened the door to serve the Northern Division for another 14 years.”

Mr Tuidama was the pioneer officer of the NDP since its inception in November 2007 and held the reigns for the past 14 years as programme manager.

Under his leadership, the organisation managed to help 2300 business enterprises throughout the three provinces – Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata – in Vanua Levu.

He said Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs), which were mostly resource-based projects in agriculture, fisheries and commercial businesses, were greatly assisted during his time.

“In my many years working for the organisation, we had provided equity grants to these projects, mostly in rural Vanua Levu and maritime islands,” Mr Tuidama said.
