Police confirmed the death of a woman in a house fire on Filipi Street, off Niudamu Road, Tacirua Heights in Suva yesterday afternoon.

Three men broke the grill of the house and one even entered the house but were unsuccessful in saving the woman.

According to one of them, a Police officer, Krishneel Singh, 21, was home resting after getting his AstraZeneca shot when an alarm was raised that a house in the neighbourhood was on fire.

“My brother, a neighbour and I ran to the front door, broke down the grill and shattered the glass door. The smoke was thick so I crawled into the living room.

“I saw a woman who was crying in pain and was on fire. I could not go to her because the smoke was thick and I was getting overwhelmed.

“There was an explosion and my brother pulled me out of the house.”

Mr Singh said his brother was injured.

Police spokesperson Wame Bautolu said Police officers and firefighters were investigating the scene.
